Prior
to considering vaccination, a careful history should
be taken to rule out susceptibility to complications
in the vaccinee or his/her contacts. These include:

Eczema (current or history of)
•
Diseases with disrupted skin
•
Burns
•
Wounds
•
Inflammatory eye disease
The degree of skin disruption should be taken into account before vaccination is denied. Small areas of involvement accompanied by adequate instruction to the patients and suggested coverage of the area to avoid implantation may be sufficient to permit vaccination.
