Normal
skin flora includes staphylococcal species and streptococcal
organisms. In addition, in infants, fecal contamination
of skin is common. Thus disruption of the skin by vaccination
may provide a fertile field for bacterial superinfection
and multiplication.
In the immunodeficient, particularly those with antibody
or polymorphonuclear WBC deficiency as a component,
bacterial infection is common and may be due to unusual
organisms.
