Vaccinia Keratitis: Diagnosis

Consultation with an experienced ophthalmologist is strongly recommended.

Slit-lamp examination provides more definitive information of the anterior segments of the eye than does usual ophthalmoscopic study.

Diagnosis is made on the basis of typical clinical findings. Usually, it is not necessary to undertake viral studies, unless there is confusion with herpes virus keratitis, or some other eye disease.
